How we count the shops
Shop locations come from two open sources. OpenStreetMap is the map built by volunteers; AllThePlaces collects every month the shop lists that chains publish on their websites. If both sources show the same shop less than 25 metres apart, we count it once.
We count the shop formats a chain runs under its name, such as its smaller convenience stores. The region comes from the coordinates, using Natural Earth boundaries.
The numbers can differ from the chains' official figures. A newly opened shop may not be there yet, and a closed one can linger for a few weeks. The same locations power the app: with Premium, when you're near one of these shops, that chain's card moves to the top.
